CHILD SAFETY October 12, 2003 Dear Parents: We, the Board of Directors of the Catholic Youth League (CYL), would like to assure you that the safety of your children (and our children as well) is of the utmost importance. We are committed to providing the safest environment possible for our children. In the thirteen years since the leagues inception there has been no instance of a problem regarding the safety of the children participating in CYL. The league is operated independently from the school, by parents, for the kids, as a gift to the schools and their families. Board members, coordinators, coaches, team parents, and referees give freely of their time and talents to provide a fun and nurturing environment for the children. CYL has been and will continue to be one of the safest environments for your children. CYL activities are some of the most scrutinized activities your children participate in on a daily basis. Parents are encouraged to be involved with CYL as spectators and volunteers. Think of the last time you went to practice and did not see a handful of parents on the field working with the kids or on the sidelines getting acquainted with the other parents. Think of the last game you attended and a sideline filled with families from both teams cheering the kids on. Everything we do is in full public view. All of our coaches have been cleared through the FBI fingerprinting process. No other league in Central Florida requires this scrutiny. Most do not require any fingerprinting at all. We have always been proactive in ensuring the safety of our children. We appreciate your patience and understanding while we try to continue to meet the diocesan mandated policies with respect to CYL. We hope you will continue to support CYL and we hope also that you understand that the Board has never taken the safety of our children lightly. CYL truly is a program that serves and benefits hundreds of children each year in a fun and rewarding way. May God Bless You, The CYL Board of Directors |
