What do the schools have to do with the Catholic Youth League?

The Catholic Youth League is like the Cub Scouts or Seminole Soccer.  We are a separate, not-for-profit corporation.  The schools permit us to distribute registrations, collect them, and in some cases, practice at the schools.  Other than the above, the schools have no control over the CYL.  Call your school coordinator or director to discuss any issues.

Injury at the fields or games.

Parents should stay with their children, as opposed to dropping off and picking up.  If an accident occurs, then you should be there for your child to seek appropriate medical care.

Practice and Games where children are left by the parents?

Parents should always be there to pick up their children on time, and coaches should always end on time.  Coaches and volunteers must always have 2 parents waiting with the children until everyone is picked up.   As a parent, please do not get to practice and leave your child alone with a coach until two adults are present.

Financial Assistance

On occasion, the League not only waives registration fees, but also pays for uniforms, shin guards, baseball gloves, and baseballs.  We have always been willing to help families in need.  If you need help, please contact your school coordinator or director for assistance.

Problems with a coach or an official?

Call your director the following Monday to discuss your concerns (please do not call on Sunday).  Never, never confront someone at the game fields or at practice.  The biggest problems that all leagues have is with parents dealing with parents.  Please let the league handle these problems.

How do I volunteer to work with the league?

Call a league officer or contact your school representative on the Board of Directors.

How does the league purchase things?

Prior to making most large purchases, the league will create a Request for Quotations (RFQ).  This document is sent to many different vendors where they respond with both prices and method of service.  If you would like to be considered for providing future services, please contact the league via a letter to our Post Office Box.

Why are we starting games with a prayer?

Since we are comprised of children that come from Catholic Schools, we feel it is appropriate to start our games by giving thanks to God for our health, abilities, and opportunity to participate in sports activities.  We also feel that this will help us keep in focus that these are only games and when the game ends, everyone should be friends.

My child is a great player in one position but the coach puts them in another position?

The league has instructed coaches to try and teach the children all aspects of the sport.  This means moving the children around to learn all of the different positions.  We feel that as children become 6th, 7th, and 8th graders, they can begin selecting specific positions that they want to play at.
